Deregistration is an obligation, not a choice. A business that has stopped making taxable supplies, or whose supplies over the past twelve months fell below the voluntary threshold of AED 187,500, is required to apply.
The window is 20 business days from the date the obligation arises. Missing it is an offence in its own right, carrying AED 1,000 for each month of delay, capped at AED 10,000.
What is most often missed is that the application is not approved on submission: the FTA does not approve until the final return is filed and all liabilities are settled. Many businesses believe they have left the system while they are still in it, with penalties running.
We review the position first — whether deregistration is mandatory or optional, and whether staying registered serves you better. Then we handle the application and the final return through to approval.
Reading your supplies over the past twelve months against both the mandatory and voluntary thresholds.
Preparing and submitting the application within 20 business days, so the late penalty never starts.
Preparing the closing return and reconciling input and output tax — a condition of approval.
Establishing what is owed and what is recoverable, and following any refund through before the file closes.
If you are already late, we quantify the penalty and file by the fastest route rather than letting it accumulate.
Documenting the deregistration and keeping records for the five years the law requires after leaving the system.
When you stop making taxable supplies, or when your supplies over the previous twelve months did not exceed the voluntary threshold of AED 187,500. In both cases the application is due within 20 business days.
AED 1,000 for each month of delay, capped at AED 10,000. It runs from the date the obligation arose, not from the date you noticed it.
Deregistration is optional rather than mandatory there. Staying registered can be the better position if you recover meaningful input tax. We calculate the effect before recommending.
There is no government fee for the deregistration application itself. Our fee depends on how many returns are outstanding, if any, and the state of your books, and is fixed after a free initial review.
